Today was iconic in my life as an exchange student. I lost my virginity...
My sauna virginity. Today I went in a traditional Finnish sauna. I can’t say I wasn't a little shocked. My family decided instead of using the beautiful, new, secluded sauna we have at home, they would have my first time be in a public sauna and pool. In an earlier post I said something about how Finnish people are very comfortable with nudity. Today I witnessed that full force and, needless to say, it was a little stressful and surprising. No clothes allowed. No swim suits (and I wouldn't have worn one anyway because people would stare at me if I did) and no towels. It was very relaxing, but we didn't stay in long because the kids were anxious to go down the slide. They are very comfortable with me living in their house already. I was worried at first that they would be uncomfortable around me, but I can tell that is not the case. Today in the car (when Sari had gone into the store) Aatu was being the rebellious 9 year old that he is, and he used Aada’s hand to flip me off. I thought it was hilarious, but I told him to stop. Aada had no idea what he was doing. Aatu and I had a pillow fight tonight and they are not afraid to fight with each other in front of me. They are all so adorable and I love all of them already. It is so cute when Venla explains things to me in very broken English. She taught me how to go down the waterslide at the pool, and how to jump off the high diving board. So far I have sang to all three of the kids on separate nights. To Aada I sang “dream a little dream of me,” to Venla I sang “At last I see the light,” and tonight I sang “A Change in Me” to Aatu. I think they like it when I sing to them. Today was a very long day. Wednesdays are my hardest days at school. Nakemiin!
