The Terrific Town of Turku

We started the day by going to look at the dance school that I will be taking some classes at. It is a famous school in Espoo called, “Step Up Dance School.” Today was a holiday called Espoo Day, so places all around Espoo were giving discounts and there were lots of neat things going on. Venla took two free classes to try them out and Aada took one. Then at one o’clock we headed back to the house to pack for the cruise. I have heard a lot about the famous city of Turku, and today I finally got to experience it! It was founded in the 1300’s, making it the oldest city in Finland. For around 500 years Turku was the Capital of Finland. It was the location of the first University in Finland (where Sari attended for two years), the first big cathedral, etc. However, in 1827, when a fire destroyed nearly the entire city, the Capital was moved to Helsinki. The city is a stunning Medieval European town, complete with castles, cobblestone roads and an incredible river running right through it. We visited Turku Castle, and shopped at some shopping centers. We went and bought candy from the largest candy shop in Finland. And we did typical touristy things while we waited for our cruise to be ready. Dinner was delicious traditional calzones next to the main river, called Aurajoki at a place called Pub Niska. Finally, we were able to board the cruise. And we took off! The cruise was a gorgeous 12 story that had everything you could possibly want. An enormous shop, a spa, loads of bars (including a karaoke bar), a buffet, jacuzzis and saunas (of course) and beautiful views from every room. There was never a time when we were bored. Since we got on the cruise at around 8 o’clock, we didn't have time to do much. So we explored, and ended up going to bed at around midnight.
