Dancing and Stress

Growing up in Chelsea means that you go everywhere by car. You get your license the second you turn 16, then and only then do you have freedom. Virtually anywhere else you go there are other modes of transportation than just car. Whether it be bus, train, skytrain, subway, etc. I, however, having lived my entire life in Chelsea, am suddenly having to learn how to use public transportation. Alone. I feel very silly, most people know how to read a bus schedule by the time they are 10. Meanwhile I’m over here at 18 trying to read a Finnish bus schedule and praying that I get off at the right stop, otherwise I’m doomed to be either stuck on that bus for all eternity or lost forever. It is causing some grief and anxiety in my life, to put it forthright. My family has been helpful, but they are busy. Which means that they try to explain how to get to and from my destination while I try to listen and understand, and then I go out on my own and hope I don't mess it up. Step Up Dance School is famous here in Finland, and I was just able to join one of the classes. The style of dance that I chose is called commercial, and I chose it because it is upbeat and a little… different… than what I would normally do. A little more, not “sexy,” but maybe the right word is “risqué.” Today was my first class and it was exciting and a little intimidating. All the other people already knew half the dance, so I struggled a little, but it was really fun and I can’t wait to go back next week.
