The head of my orientation in NY said something that stuck with me, and I don't think I will ever forget it. He said, “Your parents, your friends, they will never see you again.” Sounds like he is about to murder us right? That’s what I thought, but then he said, “Next year, the you that they meet at the airport will be completely different. This year is going to change you inside and out.” How different will I be? Will my old friends like the new me? Will I be someone my family can be proud of? Will I be someone I can be proud of? What do these changes mean for my future? I have so many questions. I’m scared, but also so excited to see what the future brings for me. Also, I thought I would talk a little about the food here in Finland. They eat a ton of potatoes, rye bread, cheese and butter, but also a ton of vegetables. I have potatoes once if not twice a day. And rye bread several times a day as well. The food here is generally healthier and less greasy than that of America. Even the fast food seems less greasy. They have a company that makes virtually all the candy in their country called Fazer. They make amazing chocolate and I seriously cannot get enough of the stuff.
