First Finnish Lesson

I was so excited to learn that I had a friend in my class. His name is Oliver, and he is a Slovakian AFS exchange student that I met at the orientation. He is also the one that lives closest to me, despite not going to the same school. We are two of the youngest members in the class, and I am pretty sure I am the only native english speaker, therefore, the class is being taught in Finnish. At first I was very nervous, but the teacher Minna seems really nice and I learned a lot from her on the first day. We learned how to spell our names with the Finnish alphabet, how to say the days of the weeks, some need to know Finnish grammar and diction stuff, etc. I also learned that in Finnish they don't have an upward inflection at the end of a question. Everything they say, even if it is a question, has a downward inflection. I had noticed this before because someone would ask a question to me and I wouldn't realize it was a question because it just sounded like a statement. That is something I will have to get used to. The class was interesting and I can’t wait to learn more.
